A múzeum parkjában bekövetkezett változások ill. a kastélybeli állomás körüli bizonytalankodás miatt megszüntettem a valódi kezdőládát és teljesen virtualizáltam a sorozatot. Ehhez kapcsolódóan egyes állomásokon változtatni kellett a jelszóképzésen, de a séta alapkoncepciója maradt.

Keszthely
Keszthely (my hometown) is maybe the most tarnished city of the Lake Balaton. Although Siófok and Balatonfüred are also competing to become the "Capital of Balaton", I believe Keszthely is it, if at all there is a need to have such.

History, Culture
From geological point of view Lake Balaton is quite young, some 20 thousands years old. The first traces of human activities date from the stone age.

This region was an important area of the roman province called Pannonia. As it was situated at the crossing of two significant commercial routes, a ferry and a considerable (400m x 400m) fortress have been built. Its ruins are at Fenékpuszta (Valcum), although they cut a so sorry figure (garbage, weed) that one would hardly hide even a cache there.

The current image, culture and traditions of the city were determined by the Festetics family - especially György Festetics - living here since the 18th-19th century. In 1797 he established the first agricultural academy in Europe, the Georgikon, to back the need of professionals he needed for cultivating his enormous estate. Since that time, the city is seen as a university town. The Festetics castle is the symbol of the city, although it is only the third Hungarian castle in size, but probably the most beautiful one. It hosts temporary and permanent exhibitions, cultural events, concerts and theatre performances. It has a nice and tidy park.

The park can be visited for free (but locked for the night), to get admittance to the castle you need to buy tickets for 750 Forints (350 for children), open every day but Monday from 10am to 5pm. (If you came by car, parking fees may apply!)

The Helikon of Keszthely is a living tradition, a cultural and youth festival organized every two years. Its opening ceremony is held at the memorial in the Helikon park.

The shore of the Balaton is very nice here, the pier, the Balaton and the Hullám (Wave) hotel, the bay of Keszthely and the Keszthely hills in the background form a very nice picture. (It's a pity to see some ugly chop-houses on the beach.)

It is worth mentioning the Balaton Museum, the Georgikon Farm Museum and of course the downtown with all its nice attractions like the Puppet Museum, the Waxworks, the Shell Parliament, and so on...

The road 71 leading to the city from the south has probably the longest horse-chestnut tree alley in the country, it's 4 kilometers long, almost 2 x 400 trees, commanding even during the winter, changing its colors from early spring to late autumn: it starts with typical white flowers, then it builds a shady green tunnel, well appreciated during the summer, finally it uses the rest of the colors during fall and scares you with its prickly-green and hard-brown bombs that hit your windscreen while falling down.
