It’s about a 10 kms drive to north from Kaposvár to get to
the arbour on road 67.
The arbour was planted to the peninsula of Deseda pond nearly 30
years ago but was opened recently. The newly built bridge is more
than 100 meters long, leading to the entrance of the arbour over
the pond. There are precise signs by the plants everywhere. The
arbour is home to 38 species of pine and 73 species of deciduous
trees and shrubs. The arbour, the pond and its vicinity is a nature
reserve.
The Deseda-stream was dammed in 1977 to create a reservoir and was
changed to a resting-place. The pond is 8 kms long, 300-400 meters
wide, has a surface of 260 hectares (642 acres) and a volume of 8
million m3. The pond is rich in fish, you can find Common carp (22
kgs), Amur carp (30 kgs), Pike-perch (13 kgs), Northern pike (10
kgs), Asp, White Bream, Prussian carp, Wels catfish (96 kgs), Eel
and Tench in the pond. Maximum sizes are in brackets. The pond has
two beaches and there’s a camping site as well.
