Geocache Description:

Pilot Creek Bridge

Bridge To Nowhere

"Still Flowing" because there was once a cache here named, you guessed it, Rubicon River at Pilot Creek and was hidden by Species 5618. Unfortunately the cache that Species5618 had hidden here was mauled by what must have been one large critter with some huge fangs. Bummer! This was such a fun hike and the beautiful surroundings at the bottom helped to make this one of my favorite cache hikes. So, the cached just had to be reincarnated. With the green light recently given by Species5618, I made it my mission to replace the cache so that others could see what a neat spot this is. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

You should know that this hike is steep. About 1500' drop in 1.1 miles. The trail is in good shape and is safe. If you own trekking poles, this would be the trail to use them on.

Once at the bottom you will cross the bridge that crosses Pilot Creek. Continue on and you will come to another bridge. Well, part of another bridge that is. In the summer months you may want to take a dip where that bridge stops. There are many other spots to take a swim too.

OK. Now about the cache. I had an extremely hard time getting good readings on my GPSr for the cache location. I'm not real confident about the coordinates listed on this page. After making this journey you need to be rewarded with the find. So here it is... the trail ends just a matter of a few feet past a rock wall wrapped in wire. You will know it when you see it. At the end of the trail you will see a lone pine tree. The cache is located just on the other side of the tree. Under the tree, in the rocks. See pics below to see exactly where the cache is. I want you to find this cache. You deserve it after this hike.
Cache Container is an ammo can.

To get there, from Volcanoville Rd you'll need to turn at N38° 57.808, W120° 42.901. Stay on this road all the way until your within about 4 or 5 hundred ft of the parking area (N38° 58.617, W120° 41.409) and take the rd up to the right and park in the flat area. Trailhead will be at N38° 58.651, W120° 41.382 and marked Nevada Point Trail. The road in is dirt but should be fine for all except the lowest of sports cars.

While on the hike back up I had thought of some other names that might fit this cache:
"Must Love Hikes 2" , yes I own one called "Must Love Hikes"
"Must Love Steep Hikes", pretty obvious, I know
"A Reverse Scooby" those of you that are familiar with some of Scoobert's favorite kind of caches will appreciate this one.
And finally, in honor of Species5618, "Quick Scotty, Beam Me Up!"
Just for the fun of it, if you think of some good cache names while huffing and puffing your way back up, please post them with your log.

Above all, be safe, have fun, and enjoy the scenery.
