One day, he visited the Show, only to find families, sat outside having picnics. When he asked why? the answer was "we're waiting to get in". On going and speaking to the Doorman, Mr Barnum, found that, no one was leaving. When he asked visitors, why they were not leaving, the reply was "we've paid our money, so were getting our moneys worth out of it".
Now Mr Barnum, being the crafty entrepreneur, hired a Carpenter, to put in a new door, at the back of the Exhibition. With a sign, with a Pointing Hand stating "Egress", the visitors, not being highly literate, belived that the sign, pointed to a new exibit, so went through the door. Only to find themselves outside. And if they wished to get back inside, they would have to pay another entry fee.
