Geocache Description:

Historic Bradfordville School House

NOTICE: There has been a report of some damage to the underpinning of the Historic Schoolhouse being caused by overzealous cache seekers. Please be advised that the cache is NOT located under the Historic Bradfordville School House. Please do not search beneath the school house for this one! Thanks!.

In the late 1800's, the residents of Bradfordville petitioned the Leon County Board of Public Instruction (predecessor to the current School Board) to have a school built. The one-room "Historic Bradfordville School House", as it is now known, was built in 1884.

The school originally resided on land at the intersection of Thomasville and Bradfordville roads. That land was sold to the board for $1 in 1906 by W.H. and Alice Lester. The school was later moved twice. The first time, in 1997, was when it was moved about 30 feet to accommodate the widening of Thomasville Road. It was moved again and to its current location in 2005 when the original land it stood on was sold. That move was purely in an attempt to preserve the history behind the small structure.

The "Historic Bradfordville School House" is now serving as The Bradfordville Community Center and is managed by the Leon County Parks and Recreation Department.

Initial contents have a school and office-supply theme.
Stealth will definitely be required when events are taking place in the Community Center. Please re-hide the cache exactly as you found it to ensure its security and longevity.  Thank you!
