The cache is a short hike on Cook's Trail which is a trail that
goes between Sandy Creek Nature Center and Sandy Creek Park. If you
feel adventurous you can go the entire 4.1 miles to the Center. The
trail is named in honor of Dr. Walter L. Cook, Jr., whose vision
and determination helped make the project a reality. The trail
meanders through towering hardwoods and makes its way around beaver
swamps through the floodplain area. There are grasses, marshes,
wildflowers in season, river birch, oak, hickory and beech trees.
If you are so blessed you may even encounter an otter, deer,
beavers, frogs, lizards and various species of birds. It is a
wonderous way to spend a beautiful day with a picnic lunch by the
river.
