Here’s an easy 20 minute (one way) hike on the Kuliouou Valley Trail. While it doesn’t have the scenic vistas of the Kuliouou Ridge Trail, it is cool and very pretty. You can find a description of the trail in various hiking books and on the web.
The coordinates are only approximate—reception is not good due to the heavy tree cover. Use this information to zero in on the location:
• At the point where the trail takes a sharp turn to the left (and down), look for a tree on the left edge of the trail with the following markings carved into the bark (yes, we are disgusted about it too)—“Tim -N- Jen” and a large “X.”
• From this tree, look for a faint trail on the right that goes uphill. It may be somewhat overgrown, as it doesn't appear to be maintained.
• Go up this trail about 20 steps; at this point the trail jogs to the right.
• Instead of going right, go left off the trail about 6 feet. The cache is hidden at the base of a broken, leaning tree. Be careful--there is an edge here!
Bring mosquito repellent and watch out for occasional slippery rocks. If you want to continue hiking, a waterfall is located less than half a mile further along this trail.
