This is the general location of the now archived “4 The Tin Can Mailman” cache owned by the mainland geocacher ErnieModesto. Due to maintenance and cache container problems the cache has been removed by me at the owner’s request. Since the location offers, in his words, “one of the best views on the planet”, he “yielded/bequeathed” the location to me to place a new cache.
The lookout offers a spectacular view of the Hanalei Valley, the Hanalei River, a National Wildlife Refuge, many taro patches, all framed by beautiful mountains. Taro has become the main crop in the valley since previous attempts to grow rice, sugar cane and even coffee were not satisfactory.
The valley has also been used for filming the movie “Uncommon Valor” with Gene Hackman. A kayak trip up the river affords a closer look and a different perspective of the valley.
Because there will almost always be muggles at the site, the cache has been placed a bit away from the crowds. WATCH TRAFFIC and stay away from the cliff; the cache can be approached quite easily and safely. This is a small cache suitable for coins, tokens, buttons and other small items. Bring your own pen.
