Geocache Description:

This cache replaces the original one that was muggled. Coordinates have been updated. The cache is a camo'd prescription bottle that can hold very small swag. BYOP. Cache is located across the street from Santa Claus Year Round Charities. You will have to go into the woods a little ways to find the cache.

Michael Carter was the owner of the land that today makes up Mascot, part of a 5000 acre land grant for his services in the Revolution. The Carter farm lies just northwest of downtown on Mascot Road, just northwest of its intersection with Roseberry Road, and a Carter cemetery is in Mascot. The town of Mascot, originally named Meek, was settled in 1796 by John Erwin. It became a company town supporting the mining operations of American Zinc, about 1910, and was named Mascot by a Mrs. McMillan, thought to be the wife of an important railroad official. Most of the houses you see along the main street and around the park were built by the mining company in the era of company owned towns. Thanks to Mike Dahl for historical background on Mascot.
