Geocache Description:

Welcome to Old Kuttawa Recreation Area. You may find yourself teetering on the EDGE and that close to getting wet. BE CAREFUL.  You are looking for a small lock-n-lock like container with log book. BYOP!

Welcome to the old town of Kuttawa located on the northern shore of Lake Barley of the Cumberland River.  Your adventure will take you on the 0.25-mile National Recreation Anderson Woodland Nature Trail that meanders through the park to several overlooks.   The trail is a concrete trail and handicapped accessible.  It has a change of elevation of about 50 feet from the beginning to the main overlook.  The geocache is located on a limestone bluff overlooking the reservior frequented by muggles who may be a very serious problem during the summer months.   So be EXTREMELY CAREFUL OF BOTH.

History of Kuttawa

Kuttawa was found by former Ohio Governor Charles Anderson in 1866.  "Cuttawa" or Kittawa" may have been the name of a Cherokee village near the site.  There are three disputed meanings that all seem to apply: "beautiful", "city in the woods", and "great wilderness".  The state of Kentucky formally incorporated the city in 1872.

In the 1960's, the Cumberland River was empounded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to create the Lake Barkley Reservior.  Kuttawa, and nearby Eddyville, were both moved from there original locations.

History of this Geocache

This geocache was placed by biosearch on 2/1/2007.  Trailhound1 adopted the geocache on 7/18/2014. As of 7/24/2014, 129 geocachers have logged it as "found".  Originally it was a 2-stage multicache.  The first stage was located where this geoache is currently located.  The final stage was often muggled.  I decided to remove this stage, because it is now located on the edge of the campsite for the park director and would be difficult to be stealthy.
