On the edge of Reach Wood, in the old clunch pit, this is Darcey's
first Geocache. The clunch pit is a long disused old quarry that
the local building stone (a sort of soft limestone) came from. It
is open to the north, and delimited along the southwest and
southeast by a steep slope and, unexpectedly for the edge of the
Fens, some old stone cliffs. The cache is hidden at the base of
these cliffs. Take some time and you should also find some
fossils.
The cache is in a clear/blue plastic sandwich box. When created it
contained some dice, a model footballer, a little purse, elastic
guitar capo, pencil and pencil sharpener (please leave these) and
log book. The box should be camouflaged so it won't be found by
accident. If the camouflage has been removed or damaged please
report it and I will fix it. The ground near the cache can get
overgrown in summer. If access is getting difficult please report
this and I will cut it back. Some stretches of the paths
approaching Reach Wood can get pretty muddy in the winter, so wear
wellies if it is wet. The cache is not a long walk from the road,
so would combine well with a walk along the Devil's Dyke .
