St. Illtyd's Lakes Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Eclectic Penguin: With regret, I'm archiving this cache.

  1. As beckybee22 points out the original intended route to the cache is no longer open to the public. When the cache was placed 15 years ago, while the route to the cache was private even then (Welsh Water), the public were allowed to visit via an open gate and sign. This is no longer the case - the kissing gate to the dam wall has now been locked shut with huge chains and padlocks and an uninviting sign stating that only those with fishing permits for a local fishing club are allowed there now. Stupid fish murderers who spoil Geocaching....

  2. You can still get to the cache location from the "back" - from the cycle path via a broken gate, through a decidedly soggy farm field and a smashed down fence near to the cache - however this does involve going through private farm land and the entire experience is a distinctly uninviting welcome to a Geocache...

  3. As Rhywgoch mentions, the cache is also now gone with only its lid remaining. Now collected and removed.

Rather than replace, I've decided that, since access is no longer generally possible as initially allowed and intended for this cache, it's regretably time to close this one down.

Geocache Description:

This cache will take you on a short walk up to the upper Lliedi reservoir. Footing can be a little damp towards the end. Being near the St. Illtyd's Way walk, it forms part of the St. Illtyd set of caches.

Free parking can be found at 51°43.000N 4°09.034W. From here, enjoy the lovely surroundings as you walk up to the second Lliedi reservoir, built in 1902.

Dunig the fishing season, there may be quite a few fishermen around the reservoir, but the cache is hopefully far enough away from any prying eyes.

This cache is part of a larger multi-cache planned for the future, all situated near or on St. Illtyd's Walk. On the lid and in the log book are two letters that correspond to numbers. Make a note of these - they may come in useful to find a bonus cache in the fututre!

Please now ignore the extra letters - the cache series was never completed.
