Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the recently opened park near the Ice Pond of Keaukaha.

This cache was created by the Na Pua No'eau center for gifted and talented Native Hawaiian children as part of an introduction to GPS and geocaching. The cache is a plastic jar containing trinkets left by some of the students. Contents include: A pouch from Maui, a sea turtle carving, a large stone marble, and native bird trading cards.
This area marks an ancient Hawaiian fish pond (Kanakea). A large pond was built in the area known and the Ice Pond where a large underwater cave pumps out cold fresh water into the area. A smaller pond is also present within the park. Please be respectful of the ancient fish pond and walls still standing in the park.
***** Be careful when nearing the cache. The ironwood needles can be slippery and you will have to step down near the water. This cache might not be accessible during stormy weather or when tides are abnormally high.*****
