The Primrose Path Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

EEeee!: This cache has had a great run, but since it looks like it may be gone anyway I'm going to go ahead and retire it. Thanks for all the fun! Maybe someone will place another cache in this area now that it's free...

Geocache Description:

Small cache located near a busy road and easily accessible from a nearby parking lot. Some stealth may be required, but less than one might expect. Bring your own pen.

To be "led down the primrose path" is a common idiom suggesting that one is being deceived or led astray. Not a bad description for many of the caches that I've looked for!

The Primrose is actually an early-flowering plant of the genus Primula, with white, red, or yellow flowers. Hopefully the name of the educational establishment within site of the cache has more to do with the flower than the path described above :-)

As it happens, the primrose comes in two main varieties: the "pin" variety (with the green knob of the stigma, looking like a pin's head, most prominent) and the "thrum" variety (with the five anthers in a ring around the tube, but no central knob). In keeping with that idea, the original contents of this cache were all pins (no thrums).

Included among them when the cache was first placed are an authentic “Ike” campaign pin, and a 2006 Alabama Geocoin replica pin. (update: Just about all the original pins have been taken without being replaced, so please trade small items)

This cache employs what will seem to many to be an obvious deception - a mass-produced container that even has the Geocaching logo on it, yet in all my caching travels I have never seen one like this used before. I’m sure they’re out there; I’ve just never encountered one.
