A two stage cache, based around an old military rifle range. The coordinates are for a film container micro cache, which contains the coordinates for the final cache. The car park here has been closed due to fly tipping, so you will have to find a safe roadside spot to park at.
This cache is located at Annieshill, near Plains Airdrie. This area has many disused mining bings and borders onto the former Stepends Colliery. Some of the old colliery buildings can be seen on the hill overlooking the new plantations. The cache starts at the gate for the woodland walk, the same start point as the "Annieshill cache". The path takes you to the micro cache hidden at "The Butts". This is the area where the targets would be placed. This seems to be a manual butt, with no sign of any former mechanical apparatus. In this area soldiers would hold a target up above the parapet. Soldiers down range would fire at the target and if hit, the soldier would lower the target, signifying a hit. The range itself was in use from the early 1900's until, as far as I can gather, the late 1960's. Old maps show firing points, and even a pavillion. The range has been turned into a plantation, and within a few years there will be little sign of the range, the butts, or the old range buildings......
