I've been looking through that old trunk trying to find out if Sven and Inga ever found each other all those years ago. Well it appears they did but something happened that separated them again. I found a letter addressed by Inga to Sven at a logging camp north of Two Harbors chronicling an incident after Sven went back to work for the winter.
I like these two, even in the face of adversity, they always manage to see the brighter side of things. I also see that Inga is not above getting a little of her own back from Sven. I'll let you read the letter.
My darling Sven,
I have some sad news to relate, that wonderful house on the hillside burned two weeks ago. The only thing left is the foundation. I hadn't had a chance to move many of our belongings into the house so the only thing we lost were some clothes and some dishes. The shed where most of our belongings are stored is still intact. You worked so hard on that house, I am truly sad that its gone.
Erno's wife offered me their spare room until I can find a new home for us. I don't mean to be critical, but I'm going to look for a place that will make it easier to plant a garden. I loved the view from our house but the hillside didn't provide much growing space. I just want you to know that I loved that house and would have happily fought the hill for every inch of a garden as we grew old together.
I'll continue to work at the store for Erno to pay for the room even though I know your friend would never accept a penny, Rozsa would never allow it. This is the best way I can think of to repay them. Rozsa and I still argue over how much I receive for working at the store. Rozsa insists that I'm underpaid. I think we will always have that discussion.
When I find a place for us I'll leave a clue for you where we spent that last night together under the heavens. The view was wonderful that night with the full moon reflected in the river. I will never forget how the stars shone in your eyes just before we kissed that enchanted evening. I still go back there when the moon is full and remember how it felt to be in your arms once again.
I think of you everyday and dream of the day when we are united once again.
With Love,
Inga
