Toland Park Travelers' Hostel Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

chaosmanor: We are not happy about this, but we don't think we have any real choice at the moment. As esquimaux reported, there was a lot of heavy equipment working in here a little while back. The large (it had to have weighed over half a ton) boulder that the cache was behind was moved over to the little parking area. Several other large boulders were moved. No idea why they had to move them, except that there might have been vehicles getting in between gaps and causing problems. But cars are (or used to be) allowed in the other entrance. So we don't know. But there is no way that we are going to replace this where it was. There's nowhere to put it right there, and we have no way of knowing if there is going to be more work. So we are archiving this [:(] We'll keep an eye on the area; maybe the County is going to do some repair work: we can hope [:D] Maybe someone who lives closer will find a better spot for a cache or two. Sorry, but Stuff Happens.

Geocache Description:

Does anyone know about this place?

Another cache in a park that really isn't one, yet, but it used to be. This place has been here for years, but it's the epitome of the term "undeveloped park". However, see the write-up of our "Toland.. Park?" cache for more info on this 500+ acre parkland. There's easily room for a dozen more caches in here, so when you come for this one, consider bringing one of your own to hide The main entrance is a half-mile farther up the road from here; you can't drive a car into the park where the cache is, but you *could* ride a bicycle, horse or motorcycle in. Take some time to drive around and check the place out. It doesn't look like much, but you could play a great game of "Capture the Flag" or "Hide and Seek" in here And as it's open 24/7, it might make for a great night cache!

We call this a "hostel", as opposed to a "hotel", as there are other things in here than just Travel Bugs and Geocoins, but the main focus of the thing is travelers. We just felt that lots of people, especially kids, won't have travelers with them, so they should have a few things to trade for, if they want. The container is a metal cookie tin, with rust-preventive paint on it, and the obligatory logbook and pencil. There's an unactivated geocoin in here for FTF, if they want it; if not, it can be traded for by anyone else. All other travelers in here are owned by other cachers and are to be moved along to another cache, please; if you have another one to put in, that would be great, but it isn't necessary to trade a TB for a TB, or a geocoin for a geocoin.

A little bit of history: Gold Star used to have a cache near here, called Rock-N-Rolling (GCE879), which has long been archived. Inside it had directions for a nifty little side trip; if you drive up the road a little past the main entrance to the park, where the road hits a little crest, and then stop, put the car in neutral, and let the brake off, the result is kind of freaky. Nothing dangerous, as long as you check to be sure that no cars are coming; it's just not what you would expect. We put the coords for it in the inside cover of the logbook. Jut be sure that no trash trucks are coming up the hill; the Toland Dump is behind the gate another quarter-mile north.

Enjoy!
