Geocache Description:

The cache is off a dirt path. Pass through two wooden posts.

On 3 March I replaced the cache in its original location.

IF YOU DISAGREE WITH THE COORDINATES PLEASE NOTIFY ME AND I WILL CHANGE THEM IF NEEDED. PREVIOUSLY SOMEONE DECIDED THE LISTED COORDINATES WERE NOT CORRECT AND MOVED IT. THERE HAS BEEN PROBLEMS EVER SINCE.

To get to the cache take Highway 90 East from Sierra Vista or West from Bisbee/Tombstone to the San Pedro House. 31 32.887N 110 08.509. Look for the sign and road. At the San Pedro House you will find a Visitor’s Center, restrooms and an interpretive trail. The 1/2 mile trail will lead you to Kingfisher Pond. Kingfisher Pond does not appear on the map. Stop at Marker 11 and begin your search. Follow the dirt path to two old wooden posts.

The San Pedro River was once known as the Beaver River in the 1820s-1830s because of the number of beaver inhabiting the river. Eventually, the number of beaver declined to extinction. In 1999 beaver was reintroduced to the San Pedro River. Now there are 50-60 beaver along the river.

This cache is located along Kingfisher Pond. You can see evidence of beaver from the cut trees. You may notice that some of the trees have chicken wire fencing around them. That was the result of several BSA Eagle Scout Projects. That didn't stop the Eager Beaver. You probably won’t see any beaver because they rarely appear during the day.

You will need bug spray in July & August. As always, stay on the trails, Leave No Trace, drink plenty of H20, and bring a hat and sun screen. Beware of Critters.
