This cache is hidden in a small river town next to the Mississippi River. The flood of 1993 caused great devastation here. I choose this place for a cache because 50 years ago it changed a 15 year old boys life. This was the local swimming hole for the town kids. Hot summer days found many here to cool off. June 29, 1957 young Joe and his family went for an afternoon swim. Joe dove in from the bank and something happened. He found himself face down in the water and unable to move. No way to call out or let people know that his life was slipping away. His brother, a boy scout leader, was the first to realize that something was wrong. He pulled him out and started CPR. Joe found himself in the hospital paralized from the neck down. It was believed that a disk slipped in his back and cut into his spinal cord. After 2 years of hospitalization and therapy he was finally able to go home. With hard work and the love of a good family to support him he gained much of his mobilty back. He went on to graduate from college, marry a wonderful woman, and raise three kids. I know all of this to be true because Joe is my Dad. If you ever find yourself in Branson, Missouri and visiting Silver Dollar City stop in to see Hall of Fame artist Joe Benjamin at "Benjamin's Pen and Ink Shop".
