Geocache Description:

The Tom Snow Trail, named after Chief Tom Snow of the Wesley band of the Stoney native peoples, starts at Station Flats in the Elbow Valley, passes through the West Bragg Creek Recreational area and terminates at the Dawson Trail Head near Sibbald Flats. I believe the portion from West Bragg Creek to Dawson is part of the Trans Canada Trail system. Parking for this cache is on the north end of Powderface Road at the edge of Sibbald Flats (see waypoint).

The parking spot is the same one used for my “JPC on the Flats of Sibbald Cache” (GCY0V5). Head towards the JPC cache at N51° 02.006’ W114° 51.587’, crossing the Jumpingpound Creek on the way, and sign in if you haven’t previously. Since the 2013 flood there is a lot of difficult to cross debris to get over. From there continue on the old road up the hill (watch for ice near the top) and proceed to N51° 01.722’ W114° 51.184’ on a wide cutline. Once at this point turn left (east) onto what I believe is the Tom Snow Trail. Continue in an easterly direction along the trail to the cache, which is hidden in a pretty meadow with a great view of Cox Hill. The one-way distance to the cache is approximately 2.1 kms with minimal elevation changes. You can retrace your steps back or continue onwards to complete a loop hike. If you decide to do the loop continue eastward from the cache for a short distance and turn left onto the first well defined trail (signed snow machine trail I think). This trail meanders over some very interesting terrain and arrives back at the old road at the top of the hill above the JPC cache. The loop option only adds about 800 meters to the journey but loops are always better because you get to see new stuff all the time. Use the parking co-ordinates as a goto to insure you are heading in generally the right direction (NW or W).

The cache is a small L&L hanging low in a small spruce tree.
