Geocache Description:

Short walk (about 1.5 km) through the oldest part of Gresse-en-Vercors.

The coordinates listed above belong to the parking area of the Tourist Information Office.

Gresse is the highest village in the Vercors, at the heart of the French "Dolomites" and within the Vercors Regional Park. An unspoilt spot in an exceptional setting at the foot of the Grand Veymont (2341m). Discover this wonderful location in a beautiful, fully intact environment.

WP 1 (N44° 54.140' - E005° 34.002')
L'Eglise de Gresse is one of the oldest churches in the region. It is probably constructed in the 13th century. It's a perfect illustration of the characteristic architecture of the Trièves.

  • What city name is written here high in the sky? (# = A
    Grenoble: 0 | Lyon: 1 | Paris: 2
  • How many shells are on the cross in front of the church? (# - 5 = BThe cross is no longer there. B = 1
  • How many different years are written on the monument with the green soldier (take a very good look)? (# = C)

WP 2 (N44° 54.123' - E005° 34.027')
This is the beginning of the Montée du Château. Now walk towards WP3 and pay attention to the house fronts (brick walls).
As you arrive at the end of the street, you should have seen 4 years, written in stone.

  • What is the oldest year? Add the first two digits. (# = D)

WP 3 (N44° 54.067' - E005° 33.945')
The monument at this WP will give you the final hints to find the cache.

  • How many surnames on this monument start with the letter 'M'? (# / 2 = E)
  • What year is written on the monument? Add all digits. (# / 2 = F)

The cache is hidden at N44° 54.ABC' - E005° 33.DEF'.
(Checksum A thru F = 28).

The container is a gray PVC tube and only has enough room for small goodies and TB's. Please close and hide everything carefully after you have logged your find.

Good luck and have fun!

For your way back to the parking area, we suggest you return to WP 3 and then take the small path down hill.
