A gentle walk to a viewpoint in Whitrigg community woodland
Possible parking places are on the road to the Robert Wiseman Milk Depot(Turn south in Redmill) or on the Hens Nest Road which leads south from East Whitburn towards Bents.
This community woodland includes a hill formed by the spoil tip from Whitrigg Colliery which closed in the 1960s. The trees have now grown sufficiently to create a pleasant environment for a walk. From the viewpoint you can see the Bathgate Hills, the Pentland Hills, The Five Sisters and Edinburgh. Wildlife is beginning to return to the area. If you visit at a time when there are not too many dog walkers you may see roe deer, foxes, hares and rabbits. Please could you record any interesting wildlife sightings in the log book.
Stealth is required as the footpaths are regularly used by joggers and dog walkers
