This cache is on national forest land in beautiful mountains north of Sierra Vista. This is a lovely little drive. The cache is at 5334' EL.
From intersection of Hwy 82 and Hwy 90 there are two ways to begin: 1 mi. North of Hwy 82 turn west onto W. Camino de Mesa Rd. from Hwy 90. Go 3/4 mi. to intersection of N. Sands Ranch Rd at N31 42.522; W110 22.041. OR from Hwy 82 (1 mi. west of Hwy 90) go 1 mi. north on N. Sands Ranch Rd. At above intersection coordinates it is 4.5 mi. to cache, continuing NW on Sands Ranch Rd. At approx. 2 mi. the road makes a right turn at a ranch house. You will immediately pass by many coils of "water tubing?". Continue past them and a short distance turn left. Proceed through closed gate which is the courtesy of Sportsman-Landowner Respect Program/AZ Game & Fish. Please respect the property & close gate after entering. You will be on Mine Canyon Rd.
A 4WD high clearance vehicle is necessary. It's an "easy" 4WD. Advise not to go in rain or soon after. There is an obvious parking area which would be excellent for lunch. The short but steep trail (160' EL gain climb) is wide and no brush. For safety, try not to walk on loose rocks. A walking stick would help. Coming down, don't let children run & keep feet sideways. You will be rewarded with an easy find and beautiful view at the top.
