Near the top of the Annalong valley, across from the Devil's Coachroad on Slieve Beg. Near a Memorial plaque.
For equipped hill walkers to attempt.
The cache is a medium tabloc container hidden among boulders. The cache has a small holograph, a model van, yoyo, puzzle, etc. logbook and pencils / sharpener.
The Devil's Coachroad (Ess-na-Weary)on Slieve Beg is across from it, conspicious by its big arrowhead of scree.
Its a two hour walk up the valley from Carrick Little car park above Annalong village. It was the favoured climbing area of my friend, remembered on the plaque - he did not return from an expedition in Kashmir.
Here's a little poem about the area (Richard Rowley):
Where Ess-na-Weary splits the hill
In a granite gulf that's dark and still.
The water bores deep and the stream runs chill.
An eerie place, at highest noon,
Wi' the river hummin' a sombre tune,
But a haunted place by the light of the moon.
From Ess-na-Weary to Boggin-roe,
When nightb is fallen, I wouldn't go,
For things is done there no men should no.
An' sounds is heard that no man should hear,
Shrieks o' madness an' wails o' fear,
When the hills are quiet and none is near.
An' the rocks is throng wi' unchancy fowl,
The raven croaks, an' the corbies gowl,
An' hoo. hoo, hoots the half blind owl.
When night is dark on the haunted hill,
An' the mists are gropin' wi' fingers chill,
God keep me safe from the powers of ill.
Hang on the door the sacred charm;
Pile up the fire, till the peat flames warm,
Christ between us and every harm.
