Bigger and Better - Day 1
(May 2007)
DATE: Saturday 26th May
2007
Firstly we'd like to
say a HUGE thanks to everyone who came along. We were expecting
about 50 people and the turn out was spot on with 48 people (with 4
people at the last moment not being able to make it). Ill keep it
short and simple so below are the interesting statistics for those
who want to see it all and the positions of all the winners.
For those of you who want a list of the TB numbers, please drop me
an email and I will forward you the list of numbers that you can
discover. Please give me a short while to get this in order. You
can drop an email to "geo@crystalfairy.co.za" with
any comments (positive or negative) so that the next event can be
even better.
Finally a BIG thanks to "Mazda Adventure Zone", "Toit's Motor
Group", "Ananzi", "African Stuff", "Garmin", Tracks 4 Africa" and
"Forever Resorts" (in no particular order) for making this event
possible and for sponsoring all the incredible prizes.
We thought we would share a few "phobias" with you from the results
and the team names. (Just for fun)

This is the
event you have all
been waiting for !!!
The co-ords listed are
NOT THE FINAL the co-ords (but reasonably close)
which is where everyone will meet and start the event
from.
The race is going to be filmed by Mazda Adventures (Mazda
Adventure Zone, Monday nights at 9pm -
SS1).
Quite a few sponsors have already
committed some excellent prizes including a GPS Unit from
Garmin.
Keep watching this
space for more useful information and hope to see you there...
Diarise NOW so you have no excuses
for not being able to make it.
We are hoping to make it a weekend get-away (but you will be able
to enter for the day only and not be required to stay
over)
We hope to
have this event more streamlined than the last one
and more coverage than the last one and even bigger and better
prizes..
HOPE TO SEE
YOU ALL THERE.
Update as at 22nd March 2007
For those of you who did not
participate in the last event, this event will be run along similar
lines. It will be made up of a number of conventional caches as
well as a number of points where you will be required to find
specific information. In addition bonus points are awarded for
completing certain tasks. All the details and instructions on what
to bring will be detailed a bit later, so keep checking back to
this page for updated information.
We have been
provisionally promised some nice goodies from the geo-caching guys
at GroundSpeak, but what we get is highly dependent on the number
of teams entering and the number of people participating. So please
if you intend to join us, post a "Will Attend" log as soon as
possible.
In order to streamline
this event (The Better Part) we ask that when you post your "Will
Attend" log, would you please drop an email to geo@crystalfairy.co.za
containing the following information.

Update as at 12th April 2007
Okay we are well on our way to the
date of the event and almost everything is under control. For those
of you who are still unsure of where the event will be taking
place, well its at "Warmbaths" in "Bela-Bela" about
150km from Johannesburg.
There are going to be
TWO events in fact. The second event will be published shortly and
will follow the previous event on the Sunday.
The first
event will be made up of a number of caches (at present we
have hidden 12 caches, comprising of Multis and Traditionals as
well as about 20 scavenger points). Hopefully by the day we should
have almost double that.
The second
event will require that you bring along your OWN cache
(it can be a Micro or a Traditional Small, Medium or Large cache)
and you will be asked to hide it yourselves after the first event
within a certain area / radius of warmbaths. Once you have hidden
it all the points will be colated and eveyone will get to search
for each others caches the following morning. Prizes will be given
out for the best cache (in terms of well hidden, clever,
interesting, views etc) - See second event for more
details.
Those who wish
tostay the night (or weekend) are more
than welcome to do so. Warmbaths have generously offered
theiraccommodation at a 20% discount for all
competitors as well as a 50% reduction in their entrance fee (R20
per Adult and R10 per Child). Please book
directly with the resort as soon as possible to ensure you
get accommodation. For those of you who prefer camping or other
venues,
click here to see a list of accommodation venues in the Bela-Bela
area.
Finally entrance fees.
We have decided to work on a R50 per person entrance fee on a
sliding scale as follows
1 person - R50
2 people - R95
3 people - R135
4 people - R170
5 people - R200
In order to get this discount you
WILL BE REQUIRED to pay in advance (Bank details
below).
If you arrive o
n the day you WILL be charged R50 per person
irrespective of number of people in your team.
If you ENTER BOTH EVENTS then the price per
person for the second event is R30 per person,
otherwise on the day it will be R50 per person.
If you wish to enter ONLY the SECOND event, the
entrance fee in advance will be R40 per
person
eg. There are 4
people in TEAM OWL (2 adults and 2 children). They wish to enter
both events. So the entrance fees will be as follows :
4 people - R170 (for the first event) + R30 * 4 = R120 (for the
second event). TOTAL : R290. Please note that on the day they will
be charged R60 entrance fee into Warmbaths (2 adults at R20 and 2
children at R10).
Please deposit your
payment (which secures your place in the event) into
ACCOUNT
NUMBER:9013338503
BRANCH: RIVONIA (509955)
BANK: ABSA BANK
It is CRITICAL you use your team name as
the reference number.
Once payment has been made please email proof to
geo@crystalfairy.co.za along with the name of the people in your
team and at least one contact number (Cell Number) and one email
address.
