This cache is located in a quiet, shady place next to one of Plant City's oldest residential neighborhoods to the North.
The impressive building to your East is the old Plant City High School. Construction started on this three-story modified Georgia-revival building on May 19, 1914 with funding fron a $40,000 bond issue. Listed on the National Register of Historic Sites, the building is owned by the City of Plant City and managed by the East Hillsborough Historical Society, which houses it's offices, pioneer museums and archives here. There are displays of agricultural, classroom, photography and railroad memorabilia. An auditorium is used for community musical and theatrical productions. A railroad museum with an extensive model layout is maintained by the Henry B. Plant Railroad Historical Society. The 1914 High School is also the site of Plant City's annual Pioneer Day in November, which features day-long entertainment, food, arts, crafts and exhibits. It also serves as the home of the Plant City Chapter #1931 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
The Plant City Primitive Baptist Church (1924) is the two corner-towered frame building to the South.
To the West is Courier Field, currently operated by the City of Plant City Recreation & Parks Department. This property was originally owned by the W.B. Herring family and used for civic activities and educational programs. Once the 1914 Plant City High School was constructed, the area was used for physical education classes.
