This cache is a small Lock & Lock container with room for a
logbook and a few small trade items. It is placed in honor of
FeatheredFriends reaching 2000 finds and is a prerequisite for
Bird Watching - FeatheredFriends 2K Series Final (GC1157). If
you plan to search for Bird Watching, be sure to copy
the clue that is contained in this cache -- you'll need it to solve
the final puzzle.
In Roman mythology, Janus was the god of gates, doors, doorways,
beginnings, and endings. Janus was frequently used to symbolize
change and transitions such as the progression of past to future,
of one condition to another, of one vision to another, the growing
up of young people, and of one universe to another. For
FeatheredFriends, 2000 finds is the end of a great
accomplishment, but just the beginning of the journey to the next
2000 finds.
This cache is placed at a site of transition. Long-time
Greensboro residents will remember the Janus as a
popular place to catch a movie: sometimes a first-run blockbuster,
sometimes a smaller art film. The Janus opened in 1968 as a twin
theater, one of the first in the south. Sadly, the theater closed
in June of 2000 and was demolished in order to make way for luxury
condos that have yet to be built.
When hunting this cache, be mindful of others in the area. While
the site is often unoccupied, the vacant parking lot is sometimes
used as a quiet resting spot for taxis and other vehicles.
This is a subscriber-only cache until May 1, 2007.
