Geocache Description:


This multi-cache has an initial waypoint and a final. The coordinates above mark the location of WP1, which is a virtual waypoint. Nothing is hidden at WP1 but there you will search for the information you will need to compute the coordinates for the final using the instructions below.

Getting to WP1 will not be as easy as it may first seem. How you approach the spot is critical to your success and will take some thinking. Approach the wrong way and you will never find the name you require. Approach the correct way and everything will be easy.


Note 10/13/2022: What you seek at WP1 is currently missing as "construction" is going on. Hopefully, before too long, there will soon be what we need at WP1. To allow this cache to be found in the mean time, walk west from WP1 about 660 feet until you see the following three words in large black letters: RIGHTS OVER LIKES. Call this spot the 2022 WP1 and the other WP1 the original WP1.

(If you approach WP1 from the west you will encounter RIGHTS OVER LIKES 666 feet before WP1 saving yourself the extra walk.)

Note 07/15/2025: RIGHTS OVER LIKES and the painting at the that went with it at the 2022 WP1 has been painted over. So a new 2025 WP1 has been selected. First a little history. When this cache was placed in 2007, WP1 was at a central location based on the posted coordinates. Then in 2022 a new WP1 located 660 feet west of the original WP1. Now a new 2025 WP1 is being placed at 760 feet west from the original WP1. Nothing is hidden at any of these WP1s, just a name that will lead you to the final. To find the name at the new 2025 WP1. Start at the original WP1 and walk 660 feet to the 2022 WP1, then continue walking west about 100 feet until you encounter a brass plaque in the center of the path. This plaque is the 2025 WP1. The top two words on the plaque both begin with the letter P. The name you need is on the next to last line of text. Select the first name (7 letters). Then go to the section in this listing called "Final Coordinates".


Stealth Instructions

Stealth is essential, as suspicious activity at WP1 will surely be noticed. Thus you must follow the instructions below to the letter:

1. Once you know how to approach WP1, put away your GPS receiver.
2. Also put away all papers and writing instruments, as they will make you look suspicious.
3. Make yourself look as if you are out for a walk, which of course you are.
4. When you finally come to the central spot you are seeking DO NOT STOP and gawk.
5. Quickly note the name you need and proceed on your way.
6. Wait until you are well away before you calculate the coordinates for the final.

All of this may seem silly, but I assure you it is not. Everything will be clear once you arrive at WP1.

Some stealth will also be required at the final, as the spot is in clear view of the neighbors. If they get curious they may want to checkout the spot for themselves.

Other Information

There is no need to go on to private property to find either WP1 or the final. Both will be found with your feet on a public walkway.

Final coordinates

The formula below only works with the name found at 2025 WP1. If you found the name at 2022 WP1 it no longer works with the formula below. Email me the 2022 WP1 name and I will tell you the 2025 WP1 name you need.

Otherwise, convert each of the first 5 letters of the name you found at the 2025 WP1 into numbers using its count (1-26) within the alphabet. Some of these numbers will be one-digit numbers (1-9) and others will be two-digit numbers (10-26). Keeping the numbers in order, concatenate them to form a 6-digit number represented by abcdef. If there is more then 6 digits discard any digits after you have abcdef.

The final is at:
N 47 degrees 35 + (abc + 37)/1000 minutes
W122 degrees 17 + (def + 294)/1000 minutes
The 15 digit checksum of the final coordinates is 61.
