Greater Volusia Tennis League, Florida Tennis Center
The Greater Volusia Tennis League, GVTL, is an adult tennis league for tennis club members in Volusia and southern Flagler Counties. Florida Tennis Center is the headquarters for the Florida section of the USTA (United States Tennis Association). It is the newest and by far the largest of the GVTL venues. The USTA is the principal sanctioning body for both professional and amateur tennis competition in this country. The FTC has 26 Hartru hydracourts. This means they have an underground watering system to keep them at the proper moisture level all the time but draining quickly after a rain. Many state and local tournaments are played here. There are about 20 clubs that participate with about 1500 players in the league. About half a dozen active levels of play for both men and women are provided as well as several mixed doubles leagues. Play is mostly doubles as court time at member clubs can be at a premium. With all these courts, Florida Tennis Center only has court availability problems when there is a tournament.
