Feelin' Froggy? Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
You are looking for a small, well cammoed, container with just enough room for a set of log sheets and Very small trade item. Bring your own pen and replace cache as you found it.
Updated 18 October 2009:
This cache is now only accessible on foot now due to trail closures by the Eglin Natural Resources Office in support of erosion control measures they feel are needed here. You can get to within a quarter mile if approaching from the East. You then have a nice walk downhill to the cache site at what is known locally as "Matt's Crossing". The approach from the West is significantly longer and still requires you to figure a way across at the cache site since the log across is long gone. Beautiful either way.
Original Write Up:
If approached from the East this cache is a great 4x4 fun day (or just a fairly long hike).
Approaching from the West is fun (if somewhat boring for us wheeling enthusiasts) in a 2WD truck/SUV with good ground clearance, until you are within 200 feet of the cache site, where you would be well advised to disembark and finish on foot. There is a price, however, exacted for this method:
Welcome to the Weaver River!! Clear and stunningly beautiful... and you must cross it's waist/chest deep waters to reach the cache (East bank).
If you were a gymnist proficient in the Balance Beam you may wish to try your luck with the slippery log stretching across the water, just be warned that any tumble off this will land you in water sure to be deeper than you are tall! Yeehaw! (take pictures)
Either way, competent 4x4ers (and just plain crazy folk) may find themselves "feelin' froggy" and want to do the crossing to see what wheelin' opportunities present themselves on the other side.
Happy Caching!
