Bear in the Bush Traditional Cache

The Cache is located along a section of the Trans Canada Trail near Cultus Lake.

The cache container is a 5 x 5 lock n lock painted camo and contains small trading items, logbook and FTF certificate.

The black bear is abundant in British Columbia, it inhabits the coastal areas as well as those dry semi-arid area's of the Interior of British Columbia. Although normally very shy and timid, they can be extreamly dangerous if they have young with them. In all the bear encounters I have had while hunting and hiking I have never experienced an aggressive one, curious yes, but normally they are heading the other direction as fast as they can. Kind of like "leave me alone and I will leave you alone".

This is what you would see in the mud or sand after a bear had passed, I have never seen any that looked exactly like these, however they are representative of what bear tracks would look like.

While hiking this portion of the Trans Canada Trail today, as I walked over to look down into the ravine where the creek flows from the lake and hatchery, eventually winding up in the Vedder River, there was a smallish Black Bear meandering along the creek side, because I was way above him/her it did not even know I was there, thankfully Geodobi did not follow me over and did not see or smell the bear. Hence the name for the Cache.

The cache can be approached from 2 parking locations, your choice.

A)  N49 05.085 W121 58.471 This will be a somewhat longer hike but well worth it.
B)  N49 04.763 W121 58.795 This is near the entrance to the Fish Hatchery and only room for one vehicle.
