Geocache Description:

This cache is located at the Schodack Island State Park, off of NYS Route 9J, just south of the Village of Castleton. Park hours vary by season, please visit the Schodack Island State Park website link for more information.

UPDATE 4/19/07 (in red):

Please note that each individual volunteer (even kids) will need to complete a Volunteer Service Agreement when they register at the event. Please visit the Volunteer Service Agreement Form link for a copy of the form that can be printed and completed prior to the event. Just remember to bring the completed form to the event . Don’t worry if you don’t complete the form before the event as we will have hardcopies available at the registration table – we just thought it would save time for everyone at the event .

We wanted give a big thanks to Timpat - he has spent a considerable amount of time preparing a great trail map of the park - THANKS TIMPAT!!! Click Here for the trail map. Per Timpat’s post on the New York Capital Region Geocachers forum (see link below) “The resolution had to be reduced for posting here so I hope it is readable.” He will also have hardcopies as handouts at the event, and the map will have the permanent caches shown, this map does not – sorry about that but we can’t show you guys where all those new caches are just yet. .

The NY Capital Region Geocachers are hosting a Cache In Trash Out (CITO) Event at Schodack Island State Park on Sunday, April 22, 2007! Come join us to clean up a great local park, do some caching, swap travel bugs and meet other area geocachers.

Where: Schodack Island State Park, Schodack Landing, NY

When: Sunday April 22, 2007 9am – 2pm

NO PARK FEE AT THIS TIME OF YEAR

About the Park: Schodack Island State Park sits off the eastern shore of the Hudson River just south of Albany. Approximately seven miles of Hudson River and Schodack Creek shoreline bound the 1,052-acre site. A day-use facility, the park has been designated a State Estuary, and a portion of the park shelters a Bird Conservation Area (BCA) that is home to bald eagles, cerulean warblers and blue herons that nest in the cottonwood trees. In addition, eight miles of multi-use trails wind through a variety of ecological communities, and the park has an improved bike trail. Interpretive signage highlights the park's historic and environmental significance.

Event will begin at 9am at the pavillion with a sign up sheet for geocachers. Areas will be assigned from there. Trash bags and 50 pairs of gloves are being supplied by Rob Taylor. Although it looks like we will have enough gloves, you may still want to bring a heavy pair of gloves for each person in your group.

We have set 5 new caches in the park for the event - there are now 9 caches all together. The new ones will be posted the day of the event for hunting after lunch.

Timpat's Cache/Trail Map will be available at the registration table the morning of the event.

Suggested items to bring are:
1. Thick Gloves
2. Boots (depending upon the tide - it could be muddy in places)
3. Water
4. Friends and Family

Do not lift anything heavy without help – if you’re unsure, don’t try it.
Use the right tool for the job.
If you don’t like the look of it, don’t touch it!
