Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the south side of Scranton. Park area is great for the kids & the hike is over relatively flat terrain. Original cache was trashed. New one has been placed. Some minor bushwhacking will be required. You will still get a great view of city.

Connell Park was almost a lost park in South Scranton. The playground equipment was in need of repair or replacement and its pool & pool house was also in need of TLC. Frosty does not remember exactly what year the revival began but it was around the same time the soccer/football field was constructed in the rear of the park. The pool house got a new coat of paint, a new sign was erected, colorfully painted garbage cans were placed thought the park, & a basketball court/new playground were installed to attract more people to the park. There are still some areas in need of a clean up, so CITO is not a bad idea here. As a child, Frosty visited the park daily since it was so close to her house & it was a meeting place for the local kids. As an adult, she visited the park daily with her dogs to run them on the grounds adjacent to the park known as the “tunnel grounds”. It has several paths that loop around the wooded area and some end up in neighboring housing complexes. We chose this area for a cache, not only to renew interest in this local park, but also to get people out in the wooded area to see how nature is reclaiming the land. This is a great example of succession. Frosty walked these trails, collecting leaves for a tree identification booklet and was surprised to see how diverse these grounds really are. Please give this park a second look & we will note that the wooded area, where you will find the cache is a great place to CITO. The location of the final cache provides a great view, both day & night. Part One: The cords provided will take you to a memorial monument. Read the inscription from the donating family & use the following key to find the missing numbers for the second part. N4_ _ _._ _ _ (Mr & Mrs. ?
