Geocache Description:

This cache is located at the corner where three states meet: Nevada, Utah, and Arizona, at 2703 ft. altitude, in a small Decon container near the stone marker that resides exactly where the three states meet.

To get to the area might require a 4-wheel-drive or high clearance vehicle.

Please note: Approaches to this cache involve dirt road trips through ranch lands. Please close all gates you find along the road as a courtesy to the ranchers and stay on the road. Please show respect when in these areas.

The cache was originally in plain sight in a metal ammo can at the base of the stone marker (coordinates of the stone marker: N 37° 00.011 W 114° 03.003). But because this site has so many visitors, and the original container was stolen, in March 2012, Big E replaced the missing container with a small Decon container and moved the location northward just a bit. The coordinates now point to the cache's updated position north of the stone marker.

I will leave the details of what dirt roads to take up to the cache hunter, since there really isn't any "hunting" involved with the cache in plain sight. The roads we took (my sister and I) were pretty good, except for some rocky spots where sharp gravel made things bumpy, and other sandy spots where a two-wheel-drive vehicle would have to maintain momentum to avoid getting stuck. The last stretch of road (the route we took, anyway) had a few washes where a two-wheel-drive might get stuck (again, it depends on the driver and vehicle) so I'd recommend a 4x4 unless you want to hike the last mile or mile-and-a-half. There may be other routes to the site. That's your challenge.

UPDATE: Various cachers have reported that there are routes that now lead all the way to the marker, so no hike is required.

Once at the cache site, look around. As you stand next to the "Inital Monument", the mesa close by to the northeast is "Inital Mesa". The mountains to the east and northeast are the Beaver Dam Mountains. The mountains to the southeast are the Virgin Mountains.

When you visit, remember, you're in the desert. Bring plenty of water, no matter what time of year. Enjoy the Joshua trees that grow thickly on the flats and hills all around.

Early this morning (6:30 A.M. MDT--Utah time--July 21, 2001) I drove from St. George, Utah, to Hurricane, Utah, picked up my sister visiting from New Jersey, and drove south on I-15 to Littlefield, Arizona, where we began our trek. Because it was summer, I didn't want to be out in the desert during the middle of the day. Early mornings or late evenings are best. Or even better, spring or fall, the seasons when the desert is best enjoyed.

Enjoy!
