Geocache Description:

Gresford #4 - Air is near one corner of Cox Wood, which is now used by Scouts and youth groups for outdoor activities. Near here used to be a grand house, Horseley Hall, which stood from 1560 until it was finally demolished in 1963. It was bought by the army in the mid 20th Century and during the war it was the training centre for ATS ambulance drivers, and was successively home to the Cheshire Regiment, the Royal Engineers and the Royal Pioneer Corps.

Park at N53*05.693 W2*56.727 and walk along the track and follow the path across the fields to the cache.

This cache is part of a short quest of 5 caches in and around the village of Gresford and Marford, which can all be done in less than a day. There are 4 small regular caches, all black round plastic containers, each of which contain parts of the co-ordinates to the fifth and final cache. #5 is a short 2-stage multi; with a micro showing the way to the final regular cache, a 1 litre rectangular black plastic container.

I hope you enjoy finding these caches; please hide them all carefully as you find them, and stick to the marked paths on farm land.

There has been a settlement in Gresford as long ago as Roman times and probably back to the bronze age before that. Nowadays there are 7 pubs and a good little selection of shops in the village centre. It has a fine medieval church, All Saints, whose bells have been named one of the seven Wonders of Wales since the 1700’s. If you want to find out more about the history of Gresford, I recommend the book, “Gresford Village and Church, and Royal Marford” (1995) ISBN 0 9519772 1 0, by Dr Colin Jones.
