Geocache Description:

Simple multicache with a challenge at the end

Enjoy the view over Höggarnsfjärden and the clear water at the starting point. Not far away is a facility located, which helps to ensure the water quality: Käppalaverket. It’s run by 11 communes from the north and the east of Stockholm (Sigtuna, Vallentuna, Upplands-Bro, Upplands Väsby, Täby, Sollentuna, Danderyd, Nacka, Lidingö and Värmdö) to solve a common sewage problem.

Käppalaförbundet was founded in 1957. Finally in 1959 a 60 km long tunnel system with pump stations and cleaning facilities went into production. During the late nineties it has been renovated and adjusted to future water quality requirements and the growing population. It’s seen as one of the most effective cleaning facilities in the world in theses days.

The main part of the cleaning happens underground, only air filter devices, mud handlings facilities office and service areas are visible. The cleaning is ongoing 24 hours a day and covers the needs of half a million people.

The big chimney gives the direction for the final destination.
