Geocache Description:

Southgate Park has to be the crown jewel of parks in southern Summit County. The 200-acre Green property abuts the southern edge of Boettler Park and contains gently rolling hills, ponds and streams filled with a variety of fish. It is home to a number of water birds, and has fields and forests that attract an abundance of wildlife. There is a magnificent home located in a beautifully landscaped setting within the park. It is park property and its future use has yet to be decided. Visitors will also find an historic farm house and a barn built in 1883. The Summit County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol horses reside within the barn and nearby fields. Southgate was purchased from the Belden family in 2004 by the city of Green.

For more information and photos of the park please visit (visit link)

There is no parking within Southgate Park proper – visitors should enter Boettler Park from Massillon Road (Hwy 241), one mile south of Greensburg. Park in the southeast corner parking lot – the entrance to Southgate Park is only steps away on the walking trail.

The cache is a medium sized lock n' lock container and can hold small trade items. Please re-hide the cache exactly as you found it. The cache was named in honor of a nearby former resident located just a few hundred feet distant.

The park is open from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, or ½ hour after sunset, whichever comes first. There are several small lakes and ponds where catch and release fishing is allowed, so bring your fishing gear.

Great News! Effective Sep 2008, Southgate Park is now permitting leashed dogs on a trial basis!! Mutt Mitts are available at the park entrance from the Boettler parking lot. Please note that dogs are still not permitted in Boettler Park.
