The 3.3 acre (1.34 ha) A.D. Ross Park provides an open play
space and several large preserved trees. The local pathway running
through the park connects to the Calgary Regional Pathway
System.

For many years the base housed military personnel and offices,
and was a staging area for troop deployments.
Garrison units included Regular Force battalions of The
Queen's Own Rifles of Canada and Princess Patricia's
Canadian Light Infantry, as well as 1 Service
Battalion and 1 Military Police Platoon.
These units were based at Currie Barracks. Lord Strathcona's
Horse (Royal Canadians) was based at Harvey Barracks.
Reorganization of Canada's military in the 1990s resulted in a
number of bases being closed and personnel consolidated into
so-called "superbases". In 1998, CFB Calgary was officially
decommissioned, with most of its personnel relocated to CFB
Edmonton at Namao, Alberta.
