How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

A short series of caches left on the Island in gratitude to the Geocachers of Jersey for providing us with such a memorable weeks enjoyment. Particular thanks go to The Mundys who have agreed to maintain this cache.

There are many towers around the coast of the island and during our visit we visited several of them. My personal favourite has to be the Seymour Tower (see L'Avarison GCWNGX) but from a caching point of view, this is much easier.

This Martello Tower is called Archirondel and it is to be found on the Eastern side of the island.

There is a pleasant sandy beach with parking close by, toilets and a nice cafe. It is served by Bus Route 20.

It seems that this point is popular with sea anglers and some stealth could be required is any are near but if you see any anglers you will have the chance to play the old game of 'Bait the Fisherman'. The rules of this old Dorset game, which you play entirely at your own risk and having read the Geocaching disclaimer, are as follows:-

a) Approach an Angler and say "Hello, that youngster over there has caught lots more fish than you, hasn't he?".
b) Score points for the response as below

  • 1 point......." Oh that is wonderful news and has really made my day for he
is such a good and decent fellow"
  • 2 points......"Ummmph"
  • 5 points......"Go away"
  • 8 points......"Oh No, I am such a failure" NOTE there is a bonus of 25 points if
this is followed by Angler jumping into the water
  • 10 points..... for each 4 lettered or unprintable word
  • 20 points..... for threat of physical violence
  • 50 points......for actual physical violence.

This is a game for adults only. Highest scores have been obtained from all night fishermen after a particularly cold night or on days with icy wind and driving rain blowing off the sea.
Note.....It is inadvisable to play this game on the way to the cache as it may prove difficult to open with damaged fingers.
