Geocache Description:

This is a very busy location & the cache is now a velco'd 35mm film canister which contained a pencil when placed.

If you went to the listing co-ordinates, you would find the grave of Henry James Williams, the writer of “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary” and of course his buried body is just that, (unless you count “The Tipperary” pub just up the road on the A4177 at Meer End).

However the “10 to 10 on Wednesdays” cache is around 5 miles away and has ample parking. This is why the cache site is used by the members of the Wednesday Walking Club, who meet up within a few yards of it every Wednesday at 9.50 am, hence it’s name. After arranging lifts and receiving directions from that day’s Walk-Leader, they then drive to the start of the walk (which must be within a 25 mile radius), where they put on their boots and start off on a ramble of around 8 miles.

Membership of the WWC is limited to 40 but, with each person having 3 walks in their repertoire, there are not many footpaths in the West Midlands that they do not walk. The group was started in 1981 by John Whybrow, a famous Midlands photographer, in order to help the unemployed by giving them some interesting mid week exercise and, by improving their confidence, help them back into work. Now that unemployment is much less than in the Thatcher era, there are hardly ever any out-of-work members, yet currently none are working because the membership is 100% retired!

Guest walkers are always welcome to join us so if you’re free on a sunny Wednesday and you can find the cache site please come along. Just bring some stout footwear, some sandwiches, a flask for the morning coffee stop and some money for the pub stop at mid-day!
We must be a righteous group for it hardly ever rains on a Wednesday!!

To get the cache location you need to solve the following place-names which are all local villages visited by the WWC on its walks.

Where would you find “The Winged Spur” pub? The number of L’s in the village name = A

First mentioned as La Cnolle in 1221? The number of letters in the modern name = B

Parcel up the kindling? (The number of times O appears in the place) x 3 = C

Did you win your Model T at auction? The number of letters in the name of the river which this village stands upon = D

Final resting place of a regent? Number of letters in the answer = E

Literally means ‘Rocky Hill’ in Old English? Number of letters in the answer which begins with the letter P (as geocachers you’ll need to decrypt this first) = F

A famous Lake District ‘Horseshoe’ walk has the same name? (The number of times the letter F appears in the name) minus 2 = G

The ‘Scarborough of the Midlands’ to rose-tinted Victorians! ? Number of letters in the answer not including the O’s = H

The cache is at N 52 degrees 2A.BCD W 001 degree 4E.FGH

As the area is very busy, it is may be tricky to collect the cache unobserved or without being accused of “being up to no good”. This is taken into account on the terrain score but it might be easier to collect the cache before 9am or after 5pm, You'll have to stretch up a bit but not as high as the top of the wall.

The cache name is a bit out of date as the Wednesday Walking Club now meets at this spot as 9.20am to leave and start the drive to the walk parking spot at 9.30am - the car park is too crowded now around 10am!
