This is a quick two stage multi-cache. Both stages can be reached by trail until the last 50 feet, then light bushwacking is required.
The Blue Hen; its scientific name is Gallus gallus. The noble and valiant Blue Hen Chicken is the official bird of the state of Delaware. The origin of the "Blue Hen Chicken," as the Delaware state bird, began during the Revolutionary War. The ferocity and fearlessness of Delaware soldiers in battle was associated with the fierce Kent County Blue Hen Chickens owned and bred by Captain Jonathan Caldwell. The courage and intensity demonstrated by the Delaware soldiers caused them to be referred to as fighting "gamecocks" and as the "Blue Hen's Chickens."
Today, blue hens are still noted for their fierceness. The strongest of the blue hen chicks are recruited into intense training as representatives of the First State. From this elite group the mightiest and bravest blue hen of them all is chosen to become YoUDee, the noble mascot of the University of Delaware. Like most blue hens, YoUDee has a reputation for courageousness and ferocity in battle, traits symbolic of the fighting spirit of the University of Delaware's athletic teams.
But what about the rare blue hen that is neither fierce nor fearless? Surely there are happy blue hens that have a view of life that is “sunny side up.” These less-than-noble creatures are not courageous enough to represent either the state or the university. Did you ever wonder what happens to these disgraced blue hens?
This cache will take you on a quick tour of the life of a happy blue hen. The final stage is less than a ten minute, easy walk from the first stage. Please note that although this is a regular sized cache, there is only a micro log to sign.
