This is an Official/Unofficial update on the Canby GeoBash scheduled for this Saturday the 23rd of June from 1 - 5PM at the Adult Center in Canby, Oregon.
COME EARLY AND DO SOME CANBY GEOCACHES!!
DIRECTIONS
First, HOW TO GET THERE!!! Almost everyone will be coming into Canby on Highway 99E. So for those, there are several traffic lights in Canby and one is at the corner of 99E and Ivy where there is also a 7-11 Mini-mart. At that intersection, turn South on Ivy and go about a dozen blocks. The Adult Center is on the left (East) at Ivy and 13th. For the rest of you coming from the South on the Canby-Marquam Highway, the Adult Center will be on the right just after the First Traffic Light on that road at 13th and Ivy (The Canby-Marquam Highway becomes Ivy) when you get to Canby.
POTLUCK
Second biggest question is what do I bring to the Potluck? Well, with the number of people that have responded, the variety should work itself out pretty well. But for a guideline, how about using the First letter of your USER Name on Geocaching,com? If you have already determined what you are going to bring -- stick with that!
A--E Appetizers/Salads/Veggies
F--J Soda/Drinks (No liquor, please!)
K--O Casserole/Beans, etc
P--T Desert
U--Z Chips/Snacks
We will provide Cups, Plates, Napkins and Ice. Bring your own Eating Utensils -- they are more environmentally practical and more effective than plastic knives, forks, and spoons!!
IF YOU HAVE A LARGE ICE CHEST, please bring it to ice down the pop and drinks. Thank you -- we don’t have one. Several would be even better! Those that don’t get used can stay in your vehicle.
DOOR PRIZES:
If you would like to donate an item, large or small, as a Door Prize; please bring it and put it on the Door Prize Table.
GEOBASH CACHE
I have a large Cache Container and will Hide It after the Event and will publish it within two weeks after the Event somewhere in the area. Bring TB’s/Coins/GeoSwag, etc to become part of its starting contents. If each person donating an item to it provides their e-mail address, I will e-mail them on a Bulk List 12 hours before submitting the Cache for publication and all of those people that wish can claim FTF(?). Don’t know how that will shake out but it will be interesting!!
FOR NEW GEOCACHERS
For the New Geocacher, there will be a couple of Practice Caches placed nearby for you to find. This will be an opportunity to use a GPS (maybe different GPS’s), find a Cache (not Loggable) and ask questions/resolve problems.
AGENDA
Third, what is going to go on? Everything and almost anything!!
BATTERIES: There will be a chance for you to donate/dispose of your used batteries. Scrounge up all that you can and bring them!
PRINTER CARTRIDGES: We will accept any used printer cartridges that you want to get rid of and donate them to ‘The Bomber Restoration Program’ in Milwaukee, Oregon.
PULL TABS: We have a Friend who collects Pull Tabs from Pop, Soup Cans, etc and donates them to the Ronald McDonald House and they convert them into Cash (not Cache) for Kid’s Dialysis Treatments.
GEOCOIN: You will learn about how to get a new Canby Chamber of Commerce Collectible Geocoin.
CONTEST: We will pass out the info on the Clackamas County July Geocache Contest.
6. There will be a Trackable Items (Travel Bugs, Geocoins, etc) Table for Discovery and/or Trade. Bring your Trackable Items to share or trade with others.
7. There will be an opportunity to Discover the Canby, Oregon United Nations Diabetes Awareness Travel Bug/Geocoin. The Oregon City version is also in the Area and may make an appearance, also!
FUN AND SOCIALIZING
AND MOST IMPORTANT, THERE WILL BE THE ENTHUSIASM THAT YOU BRING TO GEOCACHING TO SHARE WITH OTHERS THAT HAVE THE SAME INTEREST!!
If you have an issue/comment/suggestion/topic that you want to include in this Event, come prepared to stand up and talk about it. We all learn from others experiences.
And, lastly, anyone who expresses to the City of Canby their appreciation for helping support Geocaching in the area will earn an extra dose of KARMA!! They have provided the Adult Center for our use for this Event.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
The Canby Chamber of Commerce Geocoin is now available to interested Geocachers. You can earn this Geocoin by picking up a Registration Card at the Canby Chamber of Commerce during Regular Business Hours and completing 10 (ten) Geocaches in Canby, Oregon. The only requirements are:
1. Get and fill out the Registration Card,
2. Complete 10 (ten) Geocaches in Canby, Oregon, with 3 (three) of them being found in the last 30 (thirty) days and the additional requirement being that one of the ten be 'The Original Stash Tribute Plaque Cache' near Estacada, Oregon. Yeah, I know that is not in Canby but that is really a most significant Geocache in the History of Geocaching!! (Barlow Geocaches will count but not Wilsonville, Aurora, Oregon City, etc -- OK? The idea is for Folks to enjoy and learn about Canby, Oregon, after all!!)
3. In person, return the completed Registration Card to the Canby Chamber of Commerce during Regular Business Hours and receive your Canby Chamber of Commerce Geocoin.
Simply, this means that if you have done ten Caches in Canby, Oregon in the past and have done the "Original" Stash near Estacada, Oregon; all you have to do is find three Geocaches in Canby within the past 30 days and you can claim your Geocoin. If you have done none of the Geocaches in Canby -- YOU BETTER GET BUSY!!!
For an idea of the appearance of the Geocoin, look at ORNITH's Log of June 17th. 2007. The Geocoin that will be available for doing the ten Geocaches will be in Silver and not the gold that is shown, however.
It will be a great addition to any Geocoin collection.

Welcome to the First(?) Annual Canby Geocaching Event. The "?" is because if this is as successful as I believe it will be -- perhaps it can be done even more often than annually!! As great a variety of activities as possible will be offered as we have the use of the Canby Adult Center with ample seating for well over 140 Geocachers plus several smaller areas for quiet discussions or get-togethers. The Adult Center is adjacent to school grounds with their play areas. There is also a Swimming Pool next door that will be open (but you will have an admittance fee). The main purpose of the Event is to relax, solcialize, and enjoy the Geocaching Spirit.
The time of the Event is from 1:00PM to 5:00PM -- at least, that is how long we have the use of the Facility!! Food will be provided by POTLUCK!! Arrangements for that will come in a little while but will probably be alphabetically by User Name (unless someone has a better idea). There will be plenty of tables to arrange the food for serving.
Canby has quite few interesting caches and you should plan on coming early and staying a little later to get those caches but we do have firm times for the use of the Adult Center.
There will be an announcement before or at the Event on how you can 'earn' a free City of Canby Chamber of Commerce Geocoin.
We also plan to have a 'Donation Cache' where all attendees are invited to place an item, GeoSwag, Travel Bug, etc., in a Cache for placement somewhere in the local area after the Event.
This will, also, be a great time to Discover or Trade Geocoins or Travel Bugs. But it would be preferred if each attendee would do the trades personally and not at a 'TB/Geocoin' Table as too many items go unaccounted for after Events. Besides the Personal touch of meeting the new Owner of your TB/Geocoin is to be encouraged.
There are a lot more details to iron out but start making your plans now to come to Canby and enjoy the relaxation ond fellowship of a growing small town! So check back often to see what is happening or going to happen!!

The Oregon City UN Diabetes Awareness TB
Comes Home to Oregon City
Here is soemthing that you can do before the Canby GeoBash starts!!
When: 10am, Saturday (June 23)
Where: Berry Hill Shopping Center Parking lot, NW corner (near Shari's)
What: We'll take the Oregon City TB to a cache whose owner is present, drop the bug, then that cache owner will retrieve it and take it to another cache, whose owner is present, etc., with us all trooping along.
How long: A half-dozen caches should do it. Say about an hour.
Who: Anybody who's interested in helping this diabetes bug enter its "home" in style!
