Geocache Description:

This deposit from a passing glacier now sits on a hill side, but was once surrounded by a flowing river.

The boulder came with a tongue of glacial ice that once flowed out of the Rocky Mountains and slowly covered this area.

This is one of many "erratics" left stranded in the foothills by glaciers which gradually melted when the climate began to warm 15,000 years ago.

Please email the Cache owner the answers to the following questions.

  1. What mineral deposits found in these boulders helped geologist identify where the boulder is originally from?
  2. What area of the Rocky Mountains was this boulder traced too?
  3. What caused the boulder to split?
  4. Bison used this boulder each Spring for what purpose?
Please post or email a photo of you and your GPS with the erratic.
