badlands: Unfortunately this well crafted cache container cannot be re-created due to the deterioration of the hiding spot, however, the memory of Carson will live on with a tribute cache called Carson that I've placed nearby.

Geocache Description:

My wife says I spend too much time with the dog....

She says I need more HUMAN interaction. I say she's wrong. Although Carson, my dog, HAS been with me on every single cache that I've found....and EVERY single cache that I've hidden. He's part of the team, ya know? I sign the log, and he chews on some stick or a disgusting rodent skeleton. (Somebody's gotta do it!)

Well, anyways.... Carson thought that it was time for him to have his own cache! I said that I would help him fill out the online form. (His typing is abysmally slow!)

So....I asked where he wanted to hide his cache, and he took me to THIS place. I should have known! It's his most favorite place in the world!

Then I asked him what level of difficulty that he wanted, and he said: "RUFF!!" OK, then, rough it is.

Here's a couple of things that Carson probably wouldn't tell you, but will make finding this cache more enjoyable: First, if you're like me and HATE to look for hides with others watching, save this cache for Sunday morning (anytime before noon). At that time the West Chicago Gun Club closes off VEHICULAR access to this part of the park, in order to shoot at whatever it is they shoot at. However, it DOES NOT restrict pedestrian access, as long as you don't enter via the road. (Only the access road passes too close to the shooting range, this section of the park itself is fine.) So enter Reed-Keppler Park at the northernmost entrance, proceed as far west as you can, and then park. It will be a short, easy walk across the athletic fields to this part of the park. And you'll have the whole joint to yourself! (Obviously, you don't want to venture south towards the gun club shooting range. It will be quite obvious as to where it is, and there will also be another physical barricade.) Again, this only applies to SUNDAY MORNING BEFORE NOON.

If you don't want to wait until Sunday morning, you can drive right up to the cache, although expect to have some company!

Second, when you think you've located the cache camo container, please pull it straight out. Please don't twist it. Thanks!!

Thanks for seeking Carson's first cache. He'll be one happy puppy to read your logs!

Yikes, maybe my wife is right.
