If you like it wild and windy this is the cache for you!
An off-set cache hidden in the middle of the now disused Davidstow Moor Airfield. The co-ordinates are for a plaque which sits at the entrance to the Davidstow Moor RAF Memorial Museum (and soon to be opened Davidstow Airfield Museum, Cornwall at War).
Davidstow Airfield was built during the Second World War and was base to British, Canadian and American aeroplanes. Heavy mist prevented or hampered flights on many occasions which resulted in operations ceasing soon after the war.
In 1952 the airfield came to life again this time as a prime location for British Motor sport with the track hosting a Formula One race in May 1955. The track closed due to poor weather affecting the meetings and poor crowd attendance.
Today the airfield is used by a local Microlight flying club.
Dates on the plaque = ABCD – EFGH
The cache is hidden at:
N50° (A+D) (B-A).C D B
W004° (A+D) (F-D). A (E+H) A
The cache is a small clip lock box holding a log sheet and some small items to swap.
Be aware that, although you can drive along the old runways, they are peppered with huge pot holes so you will need to be extra cautious. I would recommend parking up just off the road and walking the last few metres to the site.
