Geocache Description:

This Cache is located above the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma, California.

This cache location overlooks the place where James Marshall discovered Gold in 1848. Overlooking the beautiful river canyon you can see California's first historic monument, the statue of James Marshall, pointing at his gold discovery site. (2018: Unfortunately, trees have grown, so the monument isn't visible from the cache. It is worth a look, though, so make sure to go see it before you leave.)

The Monroe Ridge trail is a nice 3 mile loop trail that takes you up above the James Marshall Memorial. There are great views of the Coloma valley and South Fork of the American river area. There are several picnic tables along the trail. So bring a lunch or a snack.

BEWARE of poison oak! There were seedlings in the area when the cache was placed, however, you can get to the cache without touching it.

The cache is a camouflaged Rubbermaid container. It contains 2 lottery tickets for the FTF.

A free map of the trails in the park is available at the desk in the Park Museum. You can also visit the Parks website at: (visit link)

This cache is hiker friendly but bikes and dogs are not allowed. There is also a small parking fee which will help support our state parks.

Please log your find or no find online so I will know how the cache is doing. If you feel our coordinates are off please post your coordinates with your log, so we can make adjustments if necessary.

No more boring log entries.
Hey folks how about leaving a log entry that tells us something about finding this geocache or about your day of geocaching? We cache owners like to hear about your experiences. It gives us a feeling of being there when we can't be, how the cache is doing, and it lets us get to know you in a virtual kind of way. That doesn't mean it has to be long just not boring.
Remember the cache owners and anyone with a watch on the cache will read your log, how about making it interesting.
We Thank You.

(Thanks to Species5618, I’m sure some of the words above look familiar – I borrowed a few from some of your cache pages.)
