Geocache Description:

The above coordinates are for the car park (50p) and the start of the route. The route takes you around Newcastle Emlyn where the Last Welsh Dragon was seen and will take you on a bit of history tour on your way. Once you have worked out the clues you will then be presented with the caches coordinates. The cache an ammo box is well stocked with the Dragon theme, please keep it going.

Ok now lets go hunting Dragons!

1. N52 02.185 W004 28.281 If the Dragon came here from Cardigan, how many miles did it travel? _ _

2. N52 02.141 W004 27.991 Here you will see what look like Dragon Eggs on the gate post, but how many glass circular windows here? _

3. N52 02.167 W004 28.139 This is the Old Grammar School built in 1867 by TT Elias, maybe the Dragon went to Knight School here! How many letters in the colour of the door? _

4. N52 02.344 W004 28.028 On route to this location you will pass a few public houses. Newcastle Emlyn has about 8 or 9 public houses today, but in 1868 it had a total 33. Maybe this is the reason no Dragons have been sited here recently. You will now be approaching the Market Hall built by Lord Cawdor in what year? _ _ 9 2

5. N52 02.340 W004 28.092 Beyond this location is the Holy Trinity Church yard where John Kearns is buried he was a member of the 4th Light Dragoons sent here from Carmarthen click here to find out how he met his death. Concentrating now on the coordinate is where the towns library now stands, but before that it was the Court House - How many letters in total does the inscription above the door have? _ _

6. N52 02.349 W004 27.897 Before you reach this location there is a little lane to the left, down here is the old corn mill where JR Parkington bought electricity to the town in 1909. He also built Central Hall at the entrance of this lane where he showed silent films. From these coordinates find out how many days in 1287 did the blockade last? _ _

The Story of the Last Welsh Dragon
While here why not look around the castle and grounds because this is where The Last Welsh Dragon was seen sleeping on a turret. From the castle you will see the river Teifi meandering, down below and into this river is where the Dragon fell.

7. N52 02.445 W004 28.011 Before you reach this location you will pass Emlyn Agricultural Society - Country Store (I wonder if they sell Dragon Feed!) this is supposedly where the Old Salutation Inn once stood. This Inn is where an argument led to The Last Duel in Wales and to the death of Thomas Heslop in 1814. As you carry on walking towards the coordinates you will be leaving Carmarthenshire and heading for Ceredigion. If you have managed to walk all the way into Ceredigion you will find the coordinates location and will see that Mr I Carter set up the First Printing Press here, but in what year? _ _ 1 8

Now you have all the answers we can recommend a cuppa at the nearby aptly named Snapdragons Coffee Shop on the riverside and work out the caches location. The quickest route to the cache is via the public footpath through the arch at Emlyn Arms (N52 02.370 W004 28.034) This path will take you around the back of the Hotel into its car park from here follow the path until you reach a style into a grassy area. The river Teifi will be to your right. From here on follow your GPS along the visible footpath.

After a chat with Satellite Kid after his visit to this cache, we have been made aware that the footpath from the hotel to the cache has become very overgrown (lots of Japanese knotweed too) So during the growing season we recommend that you either do this cache in reverse order starting at Question 7 first and Q1 last or just backtrack the route you have taken. Either way will take you to the cache, this is just until the council get out there to maintain it as promised.

What have you concluded, did you catch a glimpse of the Dragon on your way or did it drown and die of its wounds? One thing is clear - Dragons eggs have appeared over night in certain locations around Newcastle Emlyn.
Once you have found the cache with its stash of Dragon related swaps you will also find The Last Dragon’s Egg Cache inside. It has been placed here to encourage new caches any where, where caches are sparse. Please pick it up and ‘Hatch a Cache.’ It is all ready to go and just needs a kindly cacher with a sense of adventure to take it away and care for it once it has hatched.
Once it has been hatched we will link it here, please note it in your log if you pick it up. Replacement egg caches will appear in this cache from time to time, so watch this space!

If you are interested in a good day out Newcastle Emlyn will be hosting a two day Heart of the Dragon Festival to be held on 7th and 8th of July 2007.
