Geocache Description:

The second annual Northern New York Geocachers CITO clean-up at the Brighton Town Park in Gabriels (corner of Rte 86 and Rainbow Lake Road) will be held on April 28. Come gather with the Northern New York Geocachers and celebrate spring!

The Town of Brighton (which includes Paul Smiths, Gabriels, Rainbow Lake and McCollums) has very little permanent staff, so this park cleanup will be extremely helpful to not only the local residents but also the community groups and sports teams that use the park. The park includes a playground, pavilion, barbecue pits, horseshoe pits, field house, baseketball court/ice rink, and a large baseball field, as well as other open space areas.

The event will start at noon and run until 4:00 pm. Participants are welcome to attend for part or all of the time. The bulk of the CITO efforts will be targeted at cleaning up garbage in and around the more heavily used parts of the park, as well as clearing brush and raking pine needles. Please bring work gloves and rakes if you have them.

Participants are expected to provide their own lunches, but we will have some snacks and drinks available. We will work until approximately 2:30-ish and then we'll relax, share some war stories, compare coin collections, and have a little barbecue. We will have either a gas grill or wood fire going. Please bring your own main dish to grill (if desired), and a side dish to share. Please email me with what you plan to bring and I will post the list here for everyone's reference.

Flowery & Family: Cookies, lemonade (or hot cocoa, depending on the weather), napkins, cups, plates
NFA: case of water and gloves
Scouterduck: munchies
Andrew: hot dogs, buns, soda
Mornseer: German potato salad
dnngps: ?? trail mix?

Although this is primarily a cleanup event, we will be placing a couple of temporary caches in the park for those who would like to try their hand. We will also have some door prizes including a 2007 CITO coin donated by Blimpo and several CITO T-shirts. Additional donations are welcome.

Non-geocachers and novice geocachers are encouraged to attend and participate. There will be some experienced geocachers on hand to answer questions, and take you out on a hunt if you wish. There are several existing caches in the nearby area and between the NNYGeo members we have pledged at least 6-10 new caches to be placed in the surrounding area (including Saranac Lake, Lake Clear, Bloomingdale). We will provide a list of these caches at the event in case anyone wants to do any additional caching before or after the cleanup (just in case, you know).

Hopefully the weather will be better than at last year's event, but as there is a pavilion on site we will hold it rain or shine (or maybe even snow, if recent weather is any indication). See you there!
