the cache is located next to a concrete structure a few miles south of marysville, near highway 65. the old structure caught my eye because of the date "1935" etched into it. you will see a benchmark at the site, and you may need an extraction device such as a leatherman. as parking is not very good at the cache location, you may wish to park near the intersection 120 yards NW of the site.
in 1935 europe was preparing for war. chancellor adolf hitler had stripped german jews of their rights. mussolini invaded ethiopia. persia became iran. in the U.S. we were in the midst of the great depression. unemployment was over 20%. FDR passed the social security act. the army air corps was formed, and the B-17 bomber was developed. douglas macarthur was appointed governor of the philippines. james braddock defeated the heavily favored max baer, thus earning the nickname "cinderella man." fibber mcgee and molly debuted on the radio, and the popular board game monopoly was produced. woody allen, julie andrews, and elvis presley were born, as were pitchers bob gibson and sandy koufax and boxer floyd patterson. clearly, tho, the most important event of the year was the marriage of my parents...
