The cache container is a large ammo container with room for trade items and travel bugs. It is a very easy hike to the cache location, no matter which path you take, unless there has been a lot of rain.
Nearby on the same path is also another easy find - see if you can figure out 'Where did Es-Car-Got?' (GC1XJVW)
At the time this cache was first placed, it is Spring 2007 - And Spring means baseball! Therefore it just makes sense that when the cache was placed it was stocked with baseball cards. From Roberto Clemente to the Killer B's, I thought it would be fun to give cachers like me a chance to trade their cards of your favorite players. Please take any card you want, and if you have one, leave a card of your favorite player. Being a Pirates fan in the late 80's and early 90's, Van Slyke just happens to be mine. It's hard to argue with a 13 year career with 5 Golden Gloves, 2 Silver Sluggers, and 3 All-Star appearances! However, all players from all teams are welcome. I also encourage you to post your thoughts/memories of the Buccos in the logbook.
At the time the cache was placed I included:
Andy Van Slyke - Donruss 90, 91 & 95, Fleer 95, Topps 87, 90, 91, Upper Deck 91, 92, 92 Diamond Skills, & 93, 84 Topps MINI Rookie.
1991 Topps Sid Bream
1990 Topps Junior Ortiz
1990 Topps Rafael Belliard
1991 Score Jay Bell
1991 Topps Jose Lind
1991 Donruss Mike Lavalliere
And many more! Total value of cache well over 65 cents! (Isn't it sad what has happened to the value of baseball cards?)
This is a fairly easy walk up until the point you leave the trail. It's not far but it's off-trail through thick brush! Long pants and hiking shoes are suggested. If it has been raining recently, lets just say the area around the cache can get a little muddy. This is why I originally rated the terrain at 2.5. Later in the summer when things dry up it will be much easier. The cache is an ammo box so bring your Travel Bugs and swag to trade. There are several ways to get to the cache. You can start at the yellow gate and walk from there - but all paths are easy and there is no 'best' way to get there.
Happy caching! FTF goes to HessClan on 3/23/07!
